Herbs are not only capable of making your food taste better, but they also play a role in weight loss, some do at least. They do this because it takes more calories to digest than what they actually contain.
Cutting out sugars, measuring portions and cutting out calories will help you lose weight, but the fastest way is to burn fat. While we know exercise is a great fat burner, herbs can play an important part in the fat burning diet by helping to melt unwanted fat.
Herbs alone cannot burn fat; they need to be added to an already sensible diet. For example, green tea is a powerful fat burner, but one can’t live on green tea alone, but if it is used as an aid for speeding up your metabolism, you are on your way to success and health.
Be careful though as there are some herbs that do little more than increase your heart rate, even though they are touted as fat burners. It is vital that you do some research before you consider using nature’s arsenal in your war against body fat.
Some herbs have synergy with each other:
Bitter Orange has strong energy and fat burning properties which help your body permanently increase it’s metabolism, burning calories and fat in the process. Bitter Orange contains an ingredient called Synephrine which stimulates the adrenal gland, in turn promoting fat burning and appetite suppression. The alkaloids contained in it prevent any damage to the nervous system, heart or cardiovascular system.
When Bitter Orange is teamed with Yerba Mate the result is oxidation of body fat which enhances the rate at which fat is broken down and burned off. Meteine is found in Yerba Mate and it is this which helps suppress our appetite and boosts our energy levels
White Willow Bark is another synergetic herb that enhances the properties of both Bitter Orange and Yerba Mate.
The result is a breakdown of fat cells, making it easier to burn them away. It is also very effective in helping metabolize fat into energy.
Better known Fat-Burning Herbs:
There are numerous herbs that utilize their natural properties to help promote fat burning; these are only the ‘tip of the iceberg.’
Dandelions release enzymes that help in breaking down carbohydrates so that they don’t end up as fat. Three cups of tea a day is all you need.
Ginger is another herb that uses our own body heat to burn fat. Sip three cups a day or sprinkle ground ginger on your food or add it fresh to your food.
Another herb which makes your body hot and which acts as a fat burner is Cayenne. Cayenne tea stimulates our metabolism which accelerates digestion.
Flaxseed is an annual herb that is rich in Omega-3 and as we know, Omega-3 is an essential fatty acid. Fatty acids keep our metabolism running at optimal speed, increasing our ability to burn fat.
Lesser known fat burning herbs:
Garcinia Cambogia and Gymnema Sylvestre are probably not herbs most are acquainted with. In India Garcinia Cambogia comes in the form of a small orange fruit similar to the Tamarind. Cooks use it as a spice, but it contains properties which helps convert carbohydrates into glycogen instead of fat.
Gymnema Sylvestre tea is also found in India it helps conquer sweet cravings. The taste resembles glucose which when taken makes sugar taste bland and unappealing.
